Joan Chodorow, a dance therapist and Jung analyst, graduated from the Jung Institute of Los Angeles and a member of the San Francisco Jung Institute. In the early 1960s, he received a master's degree in psychology and dance therapy from Goddard College from Trudi Schoop and Mary Whitehouse. She was one of the earliest dance therapists in California and was the first to receive a marriage, family and child counselor license. In 1972, she organized the first ADTA conference in California and was elected Vice President of ADTA and served as Chairman from 1974 to 1976. For the past 24 years, she has been actively promoting galloping therapy and has made a unique contribution to dance and move therapy. Since 1971, she has authored numerous articles and publications on the philosophy and practice of dance therapy. Currently, in addition to her private practice, she continues to write, teach, and supervise students and therapists.​
